New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will appoint an interim senator to fill Frank Lautenberg’s seat, and has called a special election for October

***************
RIP to Sen. Lautenberg.
Christie’s decision reeks of hard-ball politics; a cynical decision
that should disqualify him from being a serious POTUS candidate.
He shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near the Oval Office.
The October special election will cost NJ millions.
It will produce a low turnout, that helps the NJ GOP candidate.
It will prevent a large Dem. turnout in Nov., which will tend to increase Christy’s predicted mandate.
Lautenberg’s term was to expire in 2014.
An interim replacement should have been Christy’s decision; and the Senate election should have taken place in 2014.
